Phuket Walking Street

Sunday Market in Old Phuket Town

Phuket Walking Street is one of the more recent attractions in Phuket Old Town, it's also know as big market, which in Thai would be Talaad Yai. Phuket Walking Street has been going on since late 2013, and it's one of those weekly events one should not miss if being in Phuket Town on a Sunday. The market is held in Old Phuket Town, Thalang Road, which is right in the middle of the historical parts of Phuket Town.

In the beginning of December 2006, Thailand launched the first of 22 tsunami-detection buoys to be positioned around the Indian Ocean as part of a regional warning system against giant waves caused by earthquakes under the sea. The satellite-linked deep-sea buoy will float 1,000km (620mi) offshore, roughly midway between Thailand and Sri Lanka.

Thalang Road it self features a mix of Thai Muslim, Indian and Chinese shops, there are also some excellent restaurants and trendy smaller hotels here. The street itself is around 300 meters long, and the market is quite relaxed and very family oriented. Main reason to visit this market would be for the relaxing atmosphere, the most enjoyable street food, and to pick up some souvenirs to bring back home.
